Georgian Brass-Inlaid Mahogany Bracket Clock circa 1820 GB£1,150.00

Georgian Brass-Inlaid Mahogany Mantel Clock circa 1820. A handsome brass-inlaid mahogany eight-day mantel/bracket clock of elegant proportions. Circa 1820 with a solid brass mechanism. Original condition with that beautiful patina of Georgian clocks of the period. Stunning brass inlays, ornate side fretwork panels with brass handles above, brass bun feet and brass finial. Original silvered dial with two winding holes and attractive hands. There is some wear to the silvered dial which lends a certain charm but this could easily replaced by the buyer if desired (replacement dials available from a supplier on ebay!!). Keeps good time. I have published a range of pictures of the clock from all angles which I hope illustrate the exceptional quality and condition of the clock. The clock is 16inches high, 8 inches wide and 6 inches in depth. There appears to be an old label inside the clock with an address in Edinburgh but it is not clear whether this is the original retailer. A similar eight-day striking clock was made by John Thwaites of London from around 1810. The closest mantel clock of a similar age and style that I have seen was 16 1/2 inches high with a painted dial, circa 1820, which achieved an auction estimate of £2,400 - £3,000. Please see page 376 Miller's Antiques Price guide 2004. ISBN 0 7537 0940 6. The item will be extensively packaged and insured adequately prior to dispatch. I will remove the pendulum and wrap the case key and winding key separately. After travelling minor adjustment may be needed. Consult an expert if you are not sure how to do this.
